Abstract

This empirical study seeks to highlight gains from psychological assessment to support socio-educational measures for adolescents in conflict with the law. A total of 158 adolescents, mean age 16 years, from the Southeast (n=100) and Midwest (n=58), serving provisional detention (n=77), sanctioned detention (n=9), monitored supervision (n=72), were evaluated by psychological assessment. Adolescents were compared in terms of sociodemographics, self-reported offences and measures received, as well as mental distress indicators in cases of detention and open measures. Results showed statistically significant differences in the application of measures and mental health in adolescents, signalling contradictions in the professional care applied.
